The trail is in a beautiful section of the Great Smokies Mountains National Park near Townsend and Tremont. The trail follows the rushing Middle Prong of the Little River, and features waterfalls, cascades and rapids cut through a narrow gorge.  The hike follows an old logging railroad bed up a gentle slope.  We plan to eat lunch along the trail on a bridge over the middle prong of the Little River.

Bring water, a trail lunch, walking stick, hiking boots, and $4.00 per person for gas for your driver.

Directions to Townsend Visitor Center:  Route 321 through Maryville.  The Townsend Visitor Center is on the right, not very far past the Back Porch Restaurant.  We’ll meet there before going into the Smokies.  Turn right out of the Visitor’s Center and turn right at the “y” at Little River Road, and then at .2 miles turn left onto Tremont Road.  The trail head is at the end of the road at about 3 miles.
